Our spa hardcovers have a high thermal resistance and virtually eliminate evaporation. We supply new spa pool covers in a variety of colours and sizes. If you know the model of spa pool you own, then we can supply a new spa cover using our extensive list of patterns. If you don’t then we can custom manufacture to your spa’s dimensions, ensuring the right size and shape is supplied. At BMH, all our hardcovers are New Zealand made and after 25 years of manufacturing, we can safely say they are constructed to survive New Zealand conditions.
how our spa hardcovers work
The hardcover sits on the top rim of the spa.
It acts like the lid on a pot to trap heat and keep rain and debris out. Furthermore, the locking features keep vulnerable small children safe.

Spa hardcovers are made by inserting two high strength polystyrene foam sheets into a vinyl outer.
The bottom of the spa cover is made of chlorine resistant P.E. plastic to eliminate bleaching.
The handles are internally strengthened.
The tie downs are strengthened and adjustable.
Locking mechanisms are fitted to limit access to the spa.
We use proven U.V. resistant vinyl (proven over 17 years of use).
The central hinge is strengthened.
The internal foams are supported across the centre with an aluminium channel.
The internal foams have a 100 to 50mm taper to prevent ponding on the surface of the cover.

Never shock dose the spa while the cover is on.
Never dose the spa with algaecides while the cover remains on.
When cleaning the spa cover, use mild soapy water and rinse with fresh water.
Never drag the spa hardcover.
Use of a cover lifter will extend the life of the cover.
Ensure the hardcover is not exposed to chemical house cleaning solutions.

how effective is a hardcover at retaining heat?
Spa hard covers have significant thermal resistance and virtually eliminate evaporation. This enables hard covers to reduce expensive pool heating energy requirements.
what size spas can be covered with a spa hardcover?
The majority of spas are under 2400mm x 2400mm square and are simple to cover. Larger covers can be made but may need modifications. Call us to discuss further. Please be aware that while larger covers are possible, they are physically hard to handle and are therefore prone to damage.
are there any spa shapes that can’t be covered?
To date, no. Hard covers can be custom fitted to almost all spas.
does the spa hardcover exempt us from the legal requirements to fence?
Generally, yes. The Building (Pools) Amendment Act 2016, which was passed in October 2016, revoked the Fencing of Swimming Pools Act and incorporated child safety provisions for residential swimming pools into the Building Act 2004. It also added a new clause to the Building Code: Clause F9 ‘Means of Restricting Access to Residential Pools’. Residential pools that are subject to child safety provisions are defined in Section 7 of the Building Act.
MBIE Acceptable Solutions F9/AS2 details the circumstances where a spa hardcover is an acceptable way of complying with the Building Act relating to safety around spa pools. BMH Hardcovers comply with the requirements of F9/AS2 relating to strength, surface, fastenings and signage. The spa owner then has to comply with F9/AS2 section 2.1 Pool Walls and keep the cover maintained
how safe are the BMH spa hardcovers?
These covers are designed to prevent a small child accessing the pool. This only works if the locking devices are used.
can we walk on the spa covers?
Cover construction is a compromise between being strong, durable and being light enough to lift on and off on a daily basis. Our spa hardcover will therefore withstand the weight of a toddler, but an adult’s weight is likely to cause damage. The life of the cover will be extended if everyone (pets and kids included) stays off the cover.
do indoor hot tubs need spa covers?
Yes, covers significantly reduce indoor condensation as well as saving heat loss.
